kumari puja vidhi

How is Kumari Puja Performed? (Puja Vidhi)

Kumari Puja is one of the most important aspects of Durga Puja. There are several rituals and traditions that must be followed by the devotees to observe this Puja. This puja is observed either on Ashtami or Navami tithi. It is believed that without observing this ritual, no yajna is considered complete.

  • First and foremost, the Kumari is bathed, preferably in holy water.
  • She is then made to wear a beautiful red Banarasi saree.
  • Afterward, the little girl is bedecked with flowers and jewelry. A tilak of Sindoor is applied on her forehead and Alta on her feet.
  • Kumari is required to fast the entire day until the Puja gets over.
  • She is then made to sit on a decorated chair before the idol of Goddess Durga.
  • A flower from Maa Durga’s hand is placed on her hand.
  • Devotees then offer her flowers, incense stick, lamps, and bel leaves.
  • Amidst the sound of Dhak, the priest chant the Mantras.
  • Devotees worship the Kumari as the incarnation of Maa Durga.
  • People gift clothes, silver, and gold jewelry to the Kumari after the Puja as it is considered highly auspicious.
