Navratri is the most awaited Hindu Festival that is observed for nine long days with utmost devotion and reverence. There are four Navratri in a year among which Shardiya Navratri and Chaitra Navratri hold immense significance. There are several rituals and traditions that are similar for both these Navratri celebrations. One such custom is Navratri Ghatasthapana. Shardiya Ghatasthapana, as the name suggests, is the installation of the Ghata or Kalash. This ritual marks the beginning of the nine-day festivity.

To see the auspicious time of Ghatasthapana, see today's choghadiya. Choghadiya Timings for Daily Shubh Muhurat.

Ghatasthapana is a highly significant ritual in Navratri celebrations as Ghata or Kalash or the sacred pot is the major object of worship during Navratri. It is in this pot that Goddess Shakti is invoked for nine days and this pot is then worshipped daily till the ninth day. Our holy scriptures and texts have laid down certain rules and procedures for Ghatasthapana Vidhi and any alteration in that or doing it at the wrong time can bring the wrath of Maa Durga. So, it is important that Ghatasthapana puja is done at the most appropriate time.

The most auspicious Navratri Ghatasthapana Muhurat is that time of the day when Pratipada tithi is prevailing or first one-third of the day. If somehow, this time is not available or not possible, then Abhijit Muhurat is another auspicious time to perform Ghatasthapana. Devotees should avoid Vaidhriti Yoga and Nakshatra Chitra times but these timings are not prohibited. Performing Ghatasthapana during Amavasya or night time is prohibited. You can check the Choghadiya to know the auspicious timings of the day.
