Diwali festivities are marked by various religious celebrations. Hanuman Puja is one of the most significant aspects of these celebrations in several northern parts of India. It comes a day before Diwali and coincides with Choti Diwali or Kali Chaudas. The day of Hanuman Puja is also celebrated as Roop Chaudas and Narak Chaturdashi.

The observance of Hanuman Puja on Kali Chaudas has a deep significance. It is believed that on the night of Kali Chaudas, the evil and bad spirits become quite powerful. The worship of Lord Hanuman is done to seek his blessings. He bestows his devotees with the strength to fight such evil spirits. Lord Hanuman protects those who perform Hanuman Puja from the effect of all the bad spirits.

Hanuman Puja Vidhi is marked by performing special Hanuman prayers and recitals of Hanuman Chalisa followed by the offering of oil and sindoor.
