According to the Katha, a moneylender had seven boys and a girl, named Karva. All the brothers loved their sister very much. On one fine evening, when brothers came home after the business, they saw her sister in trouble.

All the brothers tell their sister to eat something, but the sister kept the waterless fast of Chauth, and she can not eat until the moonrise. Brothers can not see their sister in such a condition. The youngest brother lit a lamp on the Pipal tree and put it in a sieve. From a distance, if one saw it, it looked like a rising moon.

Sister saw the moon, and finally, she worshipped it and broke the fast, but when she put a piece of food in the mouth, she got the news of her husband's death. She did the vrat wrongly, and the angry goddess did this with her. After a year, all other sisters kept the fast of Karwa Chauth.

When younger sister worshipped Goddess during the Vrat, Karwa urges to become Suhagin. And seeing the dedication of Karwa, The dead husband immediately wakes up. And in this way, she again becomes Suhagin. This is how this Karwa Chauth tradition is celebrated all over the nation to enjoy prolonged marital status.
