Vasant Panchami 2020 is a colorful and joyous festival celebrated by Hindus and Sikhs across India. It is also popularly called Basant Panchami in Hindi. The word ‘Vasant’ means spring and ‘Panchami’ implies the fifth day, so, as the name is, Vasant Panchami Saraswati Puja is observed on the fifth day of the season of Spring. Vasant Panchami also marks the beginning of the preparations of Holi and Holika Bonfire which occurs 40 days after this festival.
As per Hindu Calendar, Vasant Panchami date falls in the month of Magha on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha or the bright half which every year comes around late January or Early February. Also, the day of Vasant Panchami is decided on the basis of prevalence of Purvahna Kaal i.e. the period between sunrise and mid-day. So, when Basant Panchami tithi prevails during Purvahna Kaal, then the celebrations of Vasant Panchami begin.
Basant Panchami marks the onset of the Spring season and is dedicated to Saraswati Maa, Goddess of Knowledge and Learning. - For Saraswati Puja on Vasant Panchami, wake up and take a bath early in the morning. Wear yellow clothes and check the Vasant Panchami Shubh Muhurat to perform Saraswati Puja.
- Visit Goddess Saraswati temple or place Maa Saraswati idol in your Puja room. Offer yellow sandalwood and yellow flowers to Maa Saraswati. You may adorn idol of Devi Saraswati with yellow clothes.
- Afterwards, perform Saraswati Puja and worship Devi Saraswati with utmost devotion.
- At Puja Ghar, place musical instruments and books.

The reason why Basant Panchami is important is the association of this day to wisdom and learning.
