2017 SHRADH AND PITRU PAKSHA

Shradh 2017, Pitru Paksha 2017 - Start Date and End Date

Pitru Paksha or SHRADH is the time when people offer their prayers and pay reverence to their ancestors. Also known as Sraddha or Shraaddha, it is observed for 15 lunar days commencing from Poornima SHRADH (Bhadrapada) and ending on Sarva Pitru Amavasya (Ashvin).

PITRU PAKSHA 2017 Begins

1) POORNIMA SHRADH - 5th September 2017

SHRADH Poornima or Proshthapadi Purnima marks the beginning of Pitru Paksha. However, for ancestors who died on Poornima, SHRADH rituals should be performed on the last day, i.e. Sarva Pitru Amavasya. This is due to the fact that Bhadrapada Poornima SHRADH, though being the first day Pitru Paksha, is not considered a part of the same. Pitru Paksha starts on the next day of SHRADH Poornima.
