If any Amavasya tithi starts after Sunset and extends till the night, then the Moon cannot be seen completely on that night. This Amavasya is known as Darsha Amavasya or Vaisakha Amavasya. Darsha Amavasya holds a great significance for the Hindus. This day is dedicated to Chandra Dev (the Moon God). People observe a fast on this day and break it after sighting the New Moon on the day of Chandra Darshan. Many people perform shraadh (ancestral worship) on the day of Darsha Amavasya. Food, incense sticks, camphor, musk, etc. are offered to the forefathers on this day. Darsha Amavasya is also one of the three days for taking the holy bath during the Ujjain Kumbh Mela.
