Ram Navami is one of the biggest Hindu festivals that holds much reverence for devotees of Lord Rama. Lord Ram is the avatar of Lord Vishnu and it was on this day he descended on this earth as son to Ayodhya king, Dasaratha and his queen Kaushalya. Lord Ram was born during Shukla Paksha on Navami tithi in the month of Chaitra and this is why this day is celebrated with happiness and fervor as Lord Rama’s birthday. Rama Navami festival also marks the last day of Chaitra Navratri festivities.

Ram Navami - Significance And Rituals
The birth of Lord Rama took place during the Madhyahna i.e. the mid of a Hindu day. This period lasts for 2 hours and 24 minutes and it is during this phase should one perform all the Puja rituals related to Rama Navami.
Madhyahna Puja on this day is considered to be the most auspicious. The middle point of Madhyana period is the exact moment when Lord Rama is born. The celebrations in Rama temples reach their peak during this particular time.
There are several traditions that are associated with Rama Navami. Some people observe day long fasts to seek blessings of Lord Rama. Eight Prahar Vrat is preferred on this day, i.e. devotees should keep this fast from sunrise till next day’s sunrise.
Fasting during Rama Navami can be observed in three different ways.
- Casual which can be done without any desire; it is termed as Naimittika.
- continual which can be observed throughout life without any desire; it is known as Nitya and Desirable.
- which is observed when one wants to fulfill any desire; it is known as Kamya.
