Popular religious festivals include but are not limited to the Sikh festivals namely Guru Nanak Jayanti and Vaisakhi, Hindu festivals of Makar Sankranti, Maha Shivratri, Janmashtami, Deepawali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Puja, Raksha Bandhan, Holi, Dusshera; Islamic festivals like the Eid ul-Fitr, Milad un-Nabi, Eid al-Adha, Muharram Buddhist festivals like Buddha Jayanti and Losar and Christian festivals of Christmas and days of observances such as Good Friday are observed throughout India.

Points to be noted while following the dates given are as under

1. Only 4 holiday are observed nationally i.e.
2. Public holidays as defined are observed on a regional basis.
3. Muslim festivals are timed according to local sightings of various phases of the moon and thus the dates change as per the lunar movement.
4.Government holidays are as per the Circular issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
