There are two different types of Griha Pravesh and there are three different varieties of Griha Pravesh.

Types of Graha Pravesh, includes

  • The Graha Pravesh of married women and
  • The Graha Pravesh into a new home/reconstructed home/renovated home altogether.

Different varieties of Griha Pravesh

Graha Pravesh into a new/renovated/refurbished home is again of three varieties-

  • Sapurva Griha Pravesh for reentering the old homes where ownership is changed from one to the other owner.
  • Dwandwa Griha Pravesh for entering into a home that has been bought by another owner and then has been re-constructed and renovated to suit the new owners state of mind.
  • Apurva Griha Pravesh for entering into new homes that are built by the owner newly or when a new home that had not been occupied earlier changes ownership in the very beginning and passes from one hand to the other.

Why is it so important to perform a Griha Pravesh Puja?

On an auspicious day for Grih Pravesh, a special Puja is performed to make our house free of vices. There is also a lore behind it. Long time back there was a newly built 13-floor home but the owner was a non-believer and did not wish to perform a Grih-Pravesh ceremony. Sometime later, some strange incidents occurred in some of the rented apartments and these incidents were almost always related to the sighting of the Jin.

Jin is a spirit that lives in a realm not much higher than the human realm, so it is believed. The house encroached their space partially and this strangeness was quite oddly observed by some of the inmates. Thereafter a house warming ceremony was organized and special prayers were offered to these beings. The few flats that felt the most impact were left unoccupied for the Gins to have a free passage.

Here is Shubh Muhurat For Purchasing Home Property.

After the house warming ceremony, the inmates no longer faced such odd and strange events and things calmed down.

This story is being told not to scare people, however this story is definitely to understand that not everything that has been preached to you is hoax in itself. Some do bear grounds, given everyone now acknowledges the presence of other worldly beings almost equivocally.

Which is the most auspicious time and day for performing the Grih Pravesh ceremony?

The most auspicious time to perform the Grih Pravesh ceremony can only be known by consulting an expert in this field. However, there are some times that do better than the others and there are some months when this ceremony can be performed better than the others.

The most auspicious time to enter a completely new home is when the Sun is in the Uttarayan position.

If the house is bought the second or third time or if the house is renovated again to make it livable, you can perform the Grih Pravesh when Jupiter or Venus is in setting position.

There are also certain months when performing the Grih Pravesh ceremony draws good fortune to its owner. Usually there is always a reason as to why some months are chosen over the other.

Let us see which would be considered the most auspicious day for Grih Pravesh.

  1. Part of January and part of February constitute the month of Magh as per the Hindu calendar: This month of Magh is definitely one of the best months for the Grih pravesh muhurat. Reason for it being that the winter has just gotten over this month and the world has begun rejoicing again. The winter crops in India have been harvested and life has definitely taken a new form and shape with the coming of Spring. Usually Basant Panchami, the fifth day of the season Spring is considered an auspicious day for a house warming ceremony.
  1. Part of February and part of March: This is the month of Falgun as per the Hindu calendars and comes with a lot of dates for providing various auspicious days for Grih Pravesh. This month the spring is at its heist and people celebrate the spring festival of Holi quite similar to the Tomatina festival of Spain. Except that, Holi is linked to the celebrations and jubilations that occurred during those times when Gods lived in our country once upon a time.
  2. Part of March and part of April: For many states in India, the fifteenth of April is considered as the New Year day. It is also the season when the New Year means a new rule book and a new beginning for many states in India. Thus, Boishakh is considered a very auspicious month in many parts of India for a proper Grih pravesh muhurat.
  3. Part of April and part of May: This is the Jaisth month, since this month is the longest as per the lunar calendar observed in many parts of the country and brings across a lot of Grih pravesh muhurats. Thus, if you’re making a foray into any of these activities, make sure you choose your month carefully. It also depends on when you want to do a certain stuff and when you don’t want to do it.

The most auspicious Muhurats to do such house warming ceremonies

The most auspicious Grih pravesh muhurat  to do any of the pious ceremonies falls on certain days and certain moments are considered more blissful than the others.

  1. The month of Kartik (part October and part November): In this time, there are celebrations in India around the killing of Evil and the winning of Good. It is the month of pagan worshippers and paganism. Thus, you can still go ahead and do all kinds of House warming ceremonies during this period that provides all those Grih pravesh muhurat.
  2. The month of Margashirsha (part November and part December): The mid of December is the birth month of most of the Shivas except some like Somenath who was born in the month of Shravan (mid-August). Thus, make sure that if you really, really want to get into a new house, and waiting is not something, you really want, then get into the new house this month of the year with the blessings of Lord Shiva. This month offers some good House purchase muhurats.

Muhurats that are inauspicious

Well, it means months that are not considered auspicious for anything in these months.

It would not be wrong to say that we are imprisoned here to learn and grow. It is just that we have been trained to see our lives as a liberation, as a blessing. Of course, it is a blessing where humans are to come out of their usual natures and do need to look forward to definitive approaches of life and living.
