Kushmanda Puja Vidhi And Story

The fourth day of the Navratri festival is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Kushmanda. After worshipping Goddess Chandraghanta on the third day of Navratri, the devotees observe and perform Kushmanda Puja on the fourth day.

Goddess Kushmanda is said to be the fourth avatar of Goddess Durga and is worshipped on the fourth day of Navratri. She possesses eight arms, holds weapons and a mala, mounts on a tiger and emanates a solar aura. Ku means a little, ushma means warmth and anda means the cosmic egg. Therefore, she is considered to be the creator of the universe. It is thought that the universe was no more than one void full of negativity and darkness until she spread light in all the directions. She is worshipped to gain health, wealth and strength.

As per the Hindu scriptures, it is believed that devotees worship Goddess Kushmanda so that they can head towards the right direction with the guidance and blessings of the Devi. The deity helps in eliminating the darkness from the world with her enchanting smile. The devotees are bestowed with extreme energy and power by worshipping Goddess Kashmunda. Maa Kushmanda also helps in improving the health of the devotees. It is believed that those who worship Kushmanda Devi are blessed with inner strength and immense wealth.

Legend of Goddess Kushmanda

As per the Hindu beliefs, the Adi-Parashakti (supreme goddess of power) appeared as Siddhidatri from the left side of the body of Lord Shiva. Goddess Parvati started living inside the core of the sun when she was in the form of Siddhidatri and thus was popularly known as Goddess Kushmanda. It signifies that Goddess Kushmanda is the only avatar of Maa Durga who can control the complete solar system by residing in the core of the sun.

Puja Vidhi for Kushmanda Puja

  • Kushmanda puja is performed for attaining wealth, health and inner strength.
  • On this fourth day of Navratri, devotees install and worship the Kalash and then offer their prayers to the Goddess.
  • A Sankalp (vow) is taken by the devotees by taking water in the hands in front of the Goddess.
  • Using a green colored asana while performing this Puja is considered auspicious.
  • Offer Water and Flowers to Mata Kushmanda seeking blessings for the good health of self and dear ones.
  • If someone in your home is terminally ill, then seek special blessings from Mata for his/her early recovery.
  • Offer flower, dhoop, etc to the idol of the Goddess.
  • Offer bhog or fruits to Mata Kushmanda as per your capacity.
  • After performing puja pay your respect to the elders of the house and distribute Prasad.
