Margashirsha Month
Margashirsha month is considered to be the 9th Lunar month in the Hindu calendar. As per the Gregorian calendar, this month falls between November-December.
The lunar month is observed by two methods in the Hindu calendar. In the 1st method, the Lunar month marks its presence from Purnima to Purnima which is known as the Purnimanta calendar whereas in another method Lunar month is marked from Amavasya to Amavasya which is known as the Amanta calendar.
Some important festivals of Margashirsha Month are Kalabhairav Jayanti, Mokshada Ekadashi, Gita Jayanti.
List of Margashirsha Month Festivals-
- Kalabhairav Jayanti - This day commemorates the birth anniversary of Shiva's fierce manifestation that is linked to annihilation (Kalabhairav Jayanti).
- Utpanna Ekadashi - This Ekadashi vrat is observed to seek blessings and appease Lord Visnu.
- Vivah Panchami - This day commemorates the marriage anniversary of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita.
- Gita Jayanti - This day is recognized as the birth or emergence of the Shrimad Bhagavad-Gita which is a holy book of the Hindus.
- Mokshada Ekadashi - This vrat is also kept to seek blessings and appease Lord Vishnu for a happy and prosperous life.
- Dattatreya Jayanti - This day is observed as the birth anniversary of the Hindu deity surrounded by Trimurti.
- Annapurna Jayanti - This Jayanti is observed once a year on the Purnima of Margashirsha.
