Ekadashi is among the auspicious days in Hindu Panchang. It is the eleventh day of the lunar cycle that includes both waxing and waning of the Moon. Based on this fact, Ekadashi is observed two times every month- during Shukla Paksha (waxing moon period) and Krishna Paksha (waning moon period).

Aja Ekadashi Vrat Katha (अजा एकादशी व्रत कथा)
As per legends, there was a great king from the clan of Lord Rama called Raja Harishchandra. He was known for his honesty and righteousness. People in his kingdom were happy and prosperous. As time passed by, he got married and had a handsome son. Once the king has seen in the dream that he has promised a sage to give his kingdom. On the next day, he witnessed the same on the doors of his palace. The sage reminded him of the dream and asked to fulfill the promise. Following the Dharma, Raja Harischandra gave away his kingdom. Later he had to sell his wife and son to keep his promise. After watching his condition, Sage Gautam suggested him for observing Aja Ekadashi Vrat. Raja Harishchandra kept the Vrat and followed all the Aja Ekadashi Vrat rituals. As an outcome, he received back his lost kingdom, wife and son.
Benefits of Aja Ekadashi Vrat
- As per Hindu scriptures, one who observes Aja Ekadashi Vrat with full devotion attains “Vaikuntha”, the Dham of Lord Vishnu, after death.
- They receive forgiveness for all their transgressions and gain abundance and wealth.

Aja Ekadashi Paran Rituals
- Paran means to open Vrat or end the Vrat. One should always consider Paran time to end their Ekadashi Vrat.
- Paran should be done the day after the Ekadashi.
- Aja Ekadashi Paran should be done only after the Dwadashi sunrise.
- One must abstain from eating brinjal on Dwadashi.
