Shukra Pradosh Vrat is done to commemorate the Lord of the day- Shukra Dev and by praying during these hours you can actually satisfy Shiva and you can receive every form of blessing from Lord Shiva.

It is believed that the path of Moksha can only be attained by worshiping Lord Shiva . People who walk on the path of spirituality must always observe the Shukra Pradosh Vrat.

Importance of Shukra Pradosh Vrat

Know what can you gain by keeping Shukra Pradosh Vrat :

If Shukra is not favorable in your marriage, then make sure you make a garland using 11 red roses and a pink thread and then place it in front of God chanting “Om Namah Shivay” for 27 times.
If you have eye problems or if you have skin problems then make a paste by mixing Gangajal into white sandalwood and apply the same paste on the Shivling.

Venus is worshipped as a Goddess in Western culture but our culture worships Venus as Shukra Dev. Shukradev was a disciple of Angiras and later, when Brihaspati Dev was made the Guru of the Devas, Shukradev was made the Guru of the Danava and Daityas. It was indeed a far greater task to organize the disarrayed and disorganized demons than making the organized Gods listen to their teacher.

The Daityas and Danava at one point of time were not even a race but scattered and diverted masses who did not know their purpose, so they would generally survive by attacking others and looting what others have. They plundered Rishis and ashrams for survival and once the slow colonization of the sages began on Earth, managing these Daityas and Asuras became a heavy task.

It was during these times that Shukracharya took control over them by fighting many battles with these unruly masses. None of the time, the Asuras could defeat him and finally their curiosity as to who the person was; who could not be defeated took them to him and in return took them to Lord Shiva.

Now, doing it was impossible for even Shukradev so he began to pray to Lord Shiva for direction and ideas. In due course of time, Shukradev succeeded in fulfilling his task and thus the bond between Shukradev and Lord Shiva is quite strong.

Thus, if you want to satisfy Shukra dev, you must worship his Ishtadev, Lord Shiva. If Lord Shiva agrees to something, Shukradev and Shanidev would obey his orders. Thus, by observing the Shukra Pradosh Vrat, you can actually receive the grace and the blessings of Shukra as well as Lord Shiva and Parvati.

Legend behind the Shukra Pradosh Vrat

Once upon a time, there were three friends in a city. Rajkumar, Brahman Kumar and third was Dhanikputra. Rajkumar and Brahman Kumar were married and Dhanikputra was also married however, his wife was yet to complete her Gauna (returning back from her mother’s place). All the three men were one day discussing their wives.

Brahman Kumar said during the discussion, that a house without women is a house full of ghosts. When Dhanik putra heard it, he immediately decided to bring back his wife. The father and mother of Dhanik Putra made him understand that Venus or Shukra dev at that point of time was not in its most auspicious form. At this kind of stage, it is not good to bring women from their maternal homes. But, he did not listen to his father and mother and reached his wife’s house. Even in her house, the family tried to advise him on the matter, but he did not listen to them. So, they arranged for the bride’s return and a bullock cart came to take them to Dhanik putra’s house.

While coming back, the bullock cart’s wheel came out, breaking the bull’s leg. Both the bride and the groom were hurt by this, however they kept walking. After some more steps, the dacoits blocked their way and looted them of all the jewelleries and the money they had with them. Finally, they reached home and there, Dhanik Putra got bit by a snake. His father called a Vaidya (Ayurveda doctor) who told him that he would die within the next three days.

When Brahman Kumar heard about Dhanik Putra, he asked his father and mother to perform the Shukra Pradosh Vrat and asked the parents to send the wife and the husband back to her home. Dhanik Putra went back to her home and slowly, his condition began to improve and with the help of Shukra Pradosh Vrat, his condition began to improve and all the dangers lurking upon his head slowly vanished.

If you tell out this story aloud on a Friday or if you hear the story yourself on a Friday, make sure that after the end of the Katha, mix all the Hawan samagri and chant either 11 times, 21 times or 108 times

“Om Hreeng Kleeng Namah Shivay Swaha”

Thus, observing the Shukra Pradosh Vrat is considered very auspicious.

How to do the Shukra Pradosh Vrat

The procedure for each Pradosh Vrat differs slightly from one another.

For Shukra Pradosh Vrat, in a brass tumbler, mix some sugar in water and pour it to the Sun God.

Chant “Om Namah Shivay '' and also offer Panchamrit (a mixture made up of five things- milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar) to Shivalinga. Pour plain water on the Shivling after that and apply roli, moli, and rice with incense and Diya. Make a sweet using whole rice and milk with sugar and offer fruits to Shiva. Sit on the mat at the same place and chant “Om Namah Shivay,” 108 times.

Precautions you need to take during the Shukra Pradosh Vrat

The various precautions required to be considered for a Shukra Pradosh Vrat would include,

All the women who have come to your home, feed them with sweets and water.
Clean the place and only then worship.
Do not wear any garment that is made of the dark black thread.
During the Vrat, keep away from thinking bad things.
Pay respect to the Guru and your father.
Drink more water and completely devote yourself to Lord Shiva.
